Edl x reloading hornady6/18/2023 ![]() I was able to load up 10 rounds each of charge weights from 42.0 to 42.4 (.2 increments) today to further test accuracy and velocity in the 178 ELD-X's. ![]() There were promising results in all of the groups from 42.0-42.4. I then loaded 5 shots each in increments of 41.8, 42.0, 42.2, and 42.4. The time before last I determined a node around 42.0 grains of Varget when I was loading three rounds in. I was finally able to finish the load testing in continuance from the work up with Varget I posted a few weeks back. 5 MOA or less dependent on if I do my part. I'm pretty happy with the results considering I'm over 2600fps and the round seems to be capable of. Due to the storms interrupting my shoot, I'll likely load 10 rounds of 42.0, 10 rounds of 42.2, and 10 rounds of 42.4 and shoot them again in 5 round increments to get a more precise measurement of overall accuracy. Rifle: McMillan Tac-308 Schneider 11.00 Twist 26"Īverage FPS Did not register right after I got soaked and labradar wasn't set up precisely.Īlso an astounding group from factory Hornady 178gr ELD-X Precision Hunterĭecent groups with each load, starting to get a stiff bolt at 42.4 but nothing major. Because of such I measure the group without the flyer and with.īrass: Prime (Norma) 2.008 +. I also shoot extremely good 4 shot groups, and usually tend to shoot what I believe to be a flyer out of the 5 shots I take. Today I was able to load up 5 rounds each of charge weights from 41.8 to 42.4 (.2 increments) today to further test accuracy and velocity in the 178 ELD-X's.Īlso two groups in I got caught in a huge thunderstorm, causing me to rush my shots before, and be wet and perturbed on the two groups afterwards. Last time I determined a node around 42.0 grains of Varget when I was loading three rounds in. I was finally able to get some rounds loaded in continuance from the work up with Varget I posted a few weeks back. Next step will be to load from 41.8 to 42.4 in. Rifle: McMillan Tac-308 Schneider 11.25 Twist 26" ES and SD are to be taken with a grain of salt due to the low amount of shots taken per charge weight.Īccuracy is measured edge to edge subtracting bullet diameter with a caliper. I was able to load up three rounds of varying charge weights from 40.0 to 42.0 (.5 increments) today to check initial accuracy and velocity in the 178 ELD-X's. If I can get my velocity up to 2800 fps, this bullet should do 1150m without destabilizing, according to my ballistics calculator (goal in this project is 1200m out of the 18" bbl, because somebody told me it can't be done) I'm compressing the powder but it still was seating the round quite easily. It looks like my velocity could increase yet so I loaded up another 9 rounds 47.8 to 50.2gr. No pressure signs, i'm going to pack some more in and do another test. I'm going to load up some higher charges to find out for sure. ![]() Seems like my velocity might be topping out at 43 grains with the 18 inch barrel. No pressure signs, i'm going to pack in some more varget until i see some pressure signs. Rifle: AR-10 / LR308 - 18" Criterion Hybrid Barrel
