As explained by the developers, only games that don’t require a custom server in addition to the PSN connection can use the new open source infrastructure. Of course, beyond the server-side code of RPCN, RPCS3 can work on-line thanks to the great deal of improvements within the emulator’s code itself. Build v0.0.12 Alpha is the first official version to include on-line play, and it also includes important improvements for performance and emulation accuracy of the PS3 CPU and GPU, support for AVX-512 instructions, bugfixes for OpenGL rendering and more. The most recent version of RPCS3 can always be downloaded from the official site, and in these two years the PS3 emulator has exceeded my wildest expectations. Compatibility list now includes 1889 playable titles out of 3162. The RPCS3+RPCN pair is anything but complete, the developers explain, and according to their tests only Bomberman Ultra and Demon’s Souls are playable on-line right now.
